The Thornburg family partnered with the Maize Education Foundation to establish the scholarships as well as an endowment. The Kyle Thornburg Memorial Scholarships were established in Kyle's name to annually assist two Maize seniors in starting their college pursuits. Kyle attended Maize High School from 2003 to 2007 where he furthered his interest and talent in art and architectureHis athletic interests were varied but his passion was soccer and he played all four years on the school team.Kyle and his high school sweetheart, Kylie, also a Maize High graduate and soccer player, were killed in March of 2011 by a drunk driver. These scholarships honor Kyle's life, particularly his time at Maize High, and recognize students with similar interests. Funding of the scholarships is possible through the annual Memorial Run held in Maize remembering Kyle and Kylie, "Run2Believe."
