Those interested in applying to fill a vacancy in Maize Board of Education District 1 can now do so. Applications are due to Board Clerk Robin Brown by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 13. To apply, please type your answers to the 10 questions listed in the attached application.
The vacancy has arisen following board member Wendi White's resignation. During the July 13 board meeting, White, who sold her house and plans to move outside of the district boundaries, announced that she would be stepping down from the board. Her resignation was effective July 14. White fulfilled her one-year term as president at the July 13 meeting.
Board members will select an interim candidate, who will serve as a Maize Board of Education member until the current term ends in January 2018. The seat will be up for election in November 2017. The interim member may choose to run to be elected to the position.
During the board's July 27 work session, President Matt Jensby appointed members Jeff Jarman and Richard Stiverson to serve on a selection committee along with Superintendent Chad Higgins to screen applications. A select number of applicants will be invited for an interview with the board of education during a special meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. Applicants must be available to attend this meeting as part of the application process. Please find additional information in the attached application.
White, who served on the Maize Board of Education since 2009, represented Board Member District 1, which is the southwest portion of the Maize School District. Her replacement also must live within the voter district boundaries. A specific geographic description and a map of the District 1 boundaries is available in the Maize Board of Education Policy online at www.bit.ly/266boedistricts.
Maize USD 266 thanks Ms. White for her service to the Maize Board of Education and USD 266.
