Tyler Road construct to alter traffic patterns
Friday, August 7th, 2015

When school starts next week, construction on Tyler Road between 29th Street North and 37th Street North will allow for north-bound traffic only. The city of Wichita anticipates that south-bound traffic on that stretch of Tyler will be closed until the project is completed in October.

Please allow extra time to travel to school in the mornings, and please be patient during this process. The safety of our students and families is a top priority. You will find traffic flow maps attached.

To protect the safety of our students and other pedestrians, the city of Wichita and Maize Schools are directing anyone needing to cross Tyler Road on foot along that mile stretch of road to do so at the intersections of Tyler and 29th Street North or Tyler and 37th Street North. Maize Schools provides busing to students living in Tyler's Landing and developments in that area. If you waived bus transportation but would like your child to ride a school bus, please click here to fill out and submit the necessary form .

The city of Wichita is ahead of schedule on its project to widen Tyler Road to a three-lane street between 29th Street North and 37th Street North. The city's project includes adding a new school entrance traffic signal, sidewalks along both sides of Tyler, and right turn lanes at all major entrances along that section of Tyler. There also will be new drainage improvements and landscaping.

The new traffic light, which will be installed at Tyler Road and the school access drive, is not yet operational. Drivers must turn left only onto Tyler from Maize South High School and the school access drive.

Maize USD 266 administrators have worked with the city of Wichita and Wichita and Maize police departments during the construction process, and we appreciate your patience during this process.

Thank you.
