Attendance

Regular attendance is necessary to fully realize the benefits of educational opportunities. Even though the student should make up written assignments, if absent he/she has still missed some learning experience. These experiences include class discussion, problem solving exercises, teamwork and social opportunities. Parents should call the office on the day of the absence. It is the responsibility of the student to check with his/her teachers about make-up work.

Behavior/Conduct

The Board of Education, administration and staff believe in sound disciplinary policies that are in accordance with good educational practice, due process and those policies specifically set forth in the handbook. Students are expected to follow school policies not only during the school day, but also while traveling to and from school events and while in attendance at school activities.

Bus Behavior and Discipline Action

Students who attend Maize schools are fortunate to have transportation provided for them. This privilege contains certain responsibilities that include abiding by the State of Kansas and the Maize USD 266 school bus regulations. These regulations are posted and will be enforced in each bus. The driver is given the authority to ask for and expect discipline and courtesy from each student.

Dress Code

USD 266 recognizes that the apparel of the student is primarily the responsibility of the parent. However, the school will insist upon modesty and neatness. Type of dress can help create an appropriate atmosphere for learning. The administration reserves the right to determine if clothing is disruptive and may not be worn. Violations of the dress code may result in disciplinary action and possible suspension.

Visitors

Parents and other interested persons are encourages to visit school during the year. This is your school and we want you to become involved. However, for the safety and welfare of the children, all visitors/volunteers must report to the office before going to the classrooms. Visitors/volunteers are required to wear a badge and should in no way interfere or impede normal school business. Volunteers who work with individual students/staff are expected to respect the privacy and confidentiality outlined in the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. Children of preschool age are not permitted to visit a classroom unless accompanied by an adult. Students enrolled at other schools are not permitted to visit during school hours. Only students regularly enrolled in Maize Schools will be allowed to attend classes.
