    2011 Season Summary

    The 2011 varsity baseball team finished the season with a 25-0 overall record.  They won the AVCTL division 1 league with a record of 12-0.  They won the 6A regional championship by beating Garden City 23-0 in the first round and Hutchinson 11-0 in the championship game.  They finished the season at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, at the 6A state tournament.  They beat Leavenworth 10-0 in the first round.  They beat Shawnee Mission East 7-6 (in eight innings) in the semi-final game.  They beat Blue Valley West 10-0 in the 6A State Championship game.  They finished 1st place in the state.  Maize finished the season as the number one ranked team in 6A and the number one ranked team in the state of Kansas.  They were ranked as high as 1 in the country by Maxpreps from 4/21 – 4/28.  The Eagles won 17 of their 25 games by run rule.  They broke the state of Kansas mark for run scored in a season by a team at 305.  The Eagles were also being compared to the Wichita Southeast team of 1978.  They also only gave up 33 runs with a team ERA of 1.18 and a team batting average of .449.  They also finished ranked in many polls.

  • 2010 Season Summary

    The 2010 varsity baseball team finished the season with a 22-3 overall record.  They won the AVCTL division 1 league with a record of 9-1.  They won the 6A regional championship by beating Wichita North 16-1 in the first round and Wichita South 10-0 in the championship game.  They finished the season at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, at the 6A state tournament.  They beat Olathe North 3-2 in the first round.  They beat Lawrence Free State 1-0 (in eight innings) in the semi-final game.  They lost to Blue Valley Stilwell 11-3 in the 6A State Championship game.  They finished 2nd place in the state.  Maize finished the season as the number two ranked team in 6A and the number two ranked team in the state of Kansas.  They were ranked as high as 22 in the country by Collegiate Baseball and finished the year ranked 72 in the nation by Maxpreps and number 2 in the state by Maxpreps, as well.  Blake Sturgeon was selected AVCTL Player of the year.  Coach Helm was selected AVCTL Division 1 coach of the year.  Individuals receiving honors:

  • 2009 Season Summary

    The 2009 varsity baseball team finished the season with a 20-4 overall record.  They finished tie for first with Goddard in the AVCTL Division I with a 9-1 record.  They won the 6A regional championship by beating Wichita South 14-0 in the first round and Wichita North   11-0 in the championship game.  They finished the season at Johnson County #&2 in Lenexa at the 6A state tournament.  They beat Olathe Northwest 12-5 in the first round.  They lost to Shawnee Mission West 9-1 in the second round.  They lost to Goddard 8-6 in the third place game.  They finished 4th place in the state.  Maize finished the season as the number four ranked team in 6A.  They were ranked as high as 14 in the country by Collegiate Baseball and finished the year ranked 448 in the nation by Maxpreps and number 9 in the state by Maxpreps, as well.  Coach Helm was selected KABC 6A coach of the year.  Individuals receiving honors:

    The 2008 varsity baseball team finished the season with a 19-4 overall record.  They finished second in the AVCTL Division I with an 8-2 record.  They won the 6A regional championship by beating Wichita South 15-4 in the first round and Wichita Northwest   3-1 in the championship game.  They finished the season at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka at the 6A state tournament.  They lost to Shawnee Mission West 4-3 in the first round.  They finished tied for 5th place in the state.  Maize finished the season as the number five ranked team in 6A.  Individuals receiving honors:
