Identifying the need
In 2011, Maize USD 266 staff leaders, parents and community volunteers formed the Maize Facility Needs Committee, which collaborated and met exhaustively to identify the greatest building and related needs to carry Maize Schools into a successful future. Representing all of the district’s schools and departments, members’ discussions, research and meetings spanned years. They identified the highest-priority projects and presented detailed plans to the Maize Board of Education. Their work evolved into an affordable improvement plan for our children and their future.
As public school funding in Kansas has dropped, school districts like Maize cannot rely on operating funds or capital outlay to pay for major multi-million dollar improvements. Even critical projects like roof repairs take a major toll on a district’s budget. Bond projects are necessary when it comes to the future of our students and the vitality of the school budget.
Listening to our community
In 2013, Maize Schools worked with Patron Insight Network to conduct a scientific survey of our school district community to collect feedback on the proposed projects. This was just one tool in the process to allow you, our residents, to weigh in on what is important to you when it comes to Maize Schools.
