Prospective Employees

Hiring Process

Each principal has the opportunity to interview and hire their own staff. Candidates are encouraged to apply for all openings that interest them. When you apply be sure to include a cover letter, resume, and professional references. If selected, someone from the school will contact you directly to schedule an interview.

Many schools have a small panel of teachers and administrators assist in the interview process. Within a few days of the interview, the principal should follow up with you letting you know what if any steps are next. More details about the process can be found here.

Special Education

USD 266 is the sponsoring district of the Maize Special Education Cooperative. Special education staff in Renwick USD 267, Maize USD 266, and at Hope Learning Center are all officially employed by USD 266. There are many opportunities for both low and high incidence special education teachers.

If you are interested in teaching special education, the district will assist you financially and professionally in your journey to become fully licensed and trained. More information about special education opportunities can be found here.

Maize USD 266 uses a variety of substitutes in order to maintain daily services for students at all our facilities. Substitute positions at any given time include:

Substitute Teaching

How to become a sub
Individuals with 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university are eligible to apply for an Emergency Substitute licensed through the Kansas Department of Education (KSDE). As part of the licensing process, the candidate will need to get fingerprints taken for the background check. Check with area police departments for their availability and fees.

Hiring process
Once the license is issued, you can apply for a substitute position here. The Human Resources team will review your information, check references, and follow up with you. Substitutes are typically onboarded within a week or two of applying.

Support Staff/Non-Teaching Opportunities

The district relies on a variety of support staff. There are many opportunities to work directly with students or support from behind the scenes. Each manager or principal hires their own team, so feel free to apply for multiple positions. The hiring manager will reach out to you to schedule an interview.

As part of the application, we do ask that you provide a professional reference or two. Giving those people a heads up that the district will be calling or emailing speeds up the process.

After the interview, the hiring manager should follow up with you one way or the other. If you are offered a position, Human Resources will reach out with your onboarding checklist. The district offers new hire sessions every Wednesday morning, so it’s important to start your onboarding checklist right away. You will need to complete a TB test and background check.

Family and Medical Leave Act

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for the following most common reasons:

The employee’s own serious health condition
The serious health condition of a spouse, parent or child
Bonding time for birth or adoption of a child

Other reasons an employee may be eligible for FMLA:

A qualifying exigency arising out of the fact that your family member is on covered active duty or has been notified of an impending call or order to covered active duty status. Your family member on covered active duty is your parent, spouse or child.
You are needed to care for your family member who is a covered servicemember with a serious injury or illness. You are the servicemember’s parent, spouse, child or next of kin.

Retirement

Upon the retirement of an employee having twenty (20) years of total experience or being at least 55 years of age, the employee will be paid 100% of his/her accumulated days of temporary leave at the rate of $65 per day. In addition, the employee will be paid $100 every year over 10 years of service in the district or SCAESIC 618. Years of service in SCAESIC 618 will only be considered for employees who transfer to USD266 in the 2021-22 school year.

At the time of enrollment in KPERS, the member designates a beneficiary to receive the accumulated contributions in case of death before retirement. Beneficiaries may be changed at any time by filling out the proper form in the business office. Employees who terminate before qualifying for retirement may apply to receive the return of their accumulated KPERS contributions. The Application for withdrawal is filed in the business office.
