Professional Development
At Maize, we are committed to investing in our educators from the start of their careers and throughout their professional journey. We provide tailored support for new teachers, offering mentorship and impactful professional development that fosters lasting relationships and energizes the workplace. For veteran staff, we continue to provide opportunities for growth and collaboration, ensuring they remain inspired and effective.
Our professional development includes:
- Mentors are provided for all staff when they start their career in Maize. Mentors provide resources, support and a trusted colleague to help guide and support the new staff member.
- New staff orientation for all new hires. This is essential because it sets the foundation for success by providing an overview of district and building expectations. It offers valuable time to build relationships with colleagues and connect with mentors, ensuring new staff feel supported and prepared.
- Year 1 and Year 2 training for new teachers. This training targets skills and strategies to help new teachers start their journey with confidence and intentional support at just the right time!
- Para Academy for all paraprofessionals in our district. Through targeted training, paras gain the skills and knowledge needed to support both students and teachers effectively, building confidence and enhancing their impact in the classroom.
- Maize Professional Learning Series: Our online book studies offer teachers a valuable opportunity to grow by providing flexibility, choice, and the chance to earn college credits at a low cost. These studies empower educators to explore relevant topics at their own pace, while fostering professional growth and contributing to their continued success in the classroom. - Student Support Specialists and Special Education Coaches: This group of dedicated educators work closely with both new and veteran staff. They provide instructional coaching, conduct observations, model effective strategies, and lead professional learning across the district, offering invaluable support to our educators.
