Elementary Education
Welcome to elementary education!
Our kindergarten through fourth-grade programs lay the foundation for lifelong learning, helping students build essential academic and social skills that will support them through high school and beyond. Our dedicated educators partner with students and families every step of the way. Your child will be placed in one of our five elementary schools, where they’ll explore core and special classes that spark curiosity and encourage growth.
In elementary school, students engage in core subjects while also participating in specials including P.E., music, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). Daily breakfast, lunch, and recess provide opportunities for social interaction and recharging.
Our district’s five elementary schools—Maize Central Elementary School, Maize Elementary School, Maize South Elementary School, Pray-Woodman Elementary School, and Vermillion Elementary School—are each supported by a vibrant parent-teacher organization (PTO) and the Maize Education Foundation. We love when parents get involved, whether through volunteering or attending events, as we believe strong partnerships between families and schools are key to student success.
Each school offers a range of student services, including access to a school nurse, school counselor, and a full-time student support advocate from the Pando Initiative, which helps ensure that students and families get the support they need while teachers stay focused on learning.
Our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework ensures each child receives the personalized attention they need to thrive. With an integrated, comprehensive Pre K-12 curriculum grounded in Kansas College and Career-Ready Standards, our schools are dedicated to your child’s success.
As students complete fourth grade, they transition to intermediate school, beginning their journey as Eagles or Mavericks, depending on which boundary feeder school aligns with their home address. This identity will carry them through until high school graduation.
