Intermediate Schools

Welcome to intermediate school education!

At Maize USD 266, fifth grade marks the beginning of an exciting chapter as students become Eagles or Mavericks in one of our two intermediate schools. These schools are designed to support the transition from elementary to middle school, providing a strong foundation for growth and success. Students attend the school designated by their home address and continue in their Eagle or Maverick feeder pattern through middle school and on to high school.

Maize Intermediate School and Maize South Intermediate School feature nearly identical layouts, with modern gyms, inviting lunchrooms, music rooms, flexible study spaces, outdoor recreation areas, and labs for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). The curriculum introduces students to new subjects, including D.A.R.E. classes, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to make wise decisions both now and in the future.

Students also get to explore a range of electives, from band to introductory engineering courses that begin to build career-oriented skills. These options allow them to dive into areas of personal interest, helping them discover more about themselves and the world around them. Leadership clubs, music theater, robotics, and more provide avenues for students to connect, learn, and lead.

Both intermediate schools benefit from the support of an active parent-teacher organization (PTO) and the Maize Education Foundation. We encourage parents to get involved—whether through volunteering or participating in events—as we believe strong family-school partnerships are key to student success.

When it’s time for middle school, our dedicated educators guide students through a smooth transition to seventh grade at Maize Middle School or Maize South Middle School.
