Elementary teacher wins national award for teaching excellence
Pray-Woodman Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Crystal May, one of only five recipients nationwide of the NEA Foundation Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence 2018, was surprised with a reception in September.
She will be recognized in February at a gala event in Washington, D.C. May was one of eight 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year Finalists. Last year, along with fellow Pray-Woodman Elementary School teacher Angela Knapp, she received a $10,000 grant from Virginia-based nonprofit group ASCD for their teacher-led coaching model to help teach math in an innovative way.
