Voters approve two-question $108.2 million bond issue
Maize USD 266 heard from voters today, and we are thrilled and grateful to our community members who have supported the $108.2 million vision to meet the needs of our rapidly growing student enrollment. We are excited to jump into forming teams soon to work on these exciting projects, which will add space to address growth, make our schools safer, and provide expanded opportunities for all students.
In the meantime, we will continue to deal with growth and crowded elementary and middle schools and provide the best learning environment for our students this school year and next school year. We intend to open our two new intermediate schools by August 2021, as new schools take about two years to design and build.
Thanks to each voter who participated in this election and made their voice heard. The district also thanks members of the Facilities Needs Committee, who volunteered countless hours researching needs and formulating this great plan. Listed below are the projects included in this bond issue.
- Question One: The construction of two intermediate centers that would house fifth- and sixth-grade students. Safety and security improvements to meet the district’s top priority: the safety of students and employees. This includes a storm shelter at Complete High School Maize, the district’s alternative high school. Upgrades to the aging 23-year-old Maize High School. Needed additions and renovations to Maize South High School.
- Question Two: Indoor pool and auditorium to meet the needs of a growing district. Safe outdoor playgrounds for elementary school students. New indoor STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) labs for elementary schools.
