Sue White teaches preschoolers, because it is an exciting, yet scary, time for both parents and children. She enjoys building a trusting relationship with families while helping their children navigate their first year of school.
As the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instructor at Maize Early Childhood Center, she has the opportunity to learn about languages from around the world. She shares, "No matter the language barrier, my students are fluent in understanding a genuine smile, a loving hug, and a silly belly laugh."
She hopes her students stay curious to learn new things, have courage to learn from failure, and have the empathy to impact the world around them. While learning a new language can be difficult, she says that watching a preschooler learn to communicate in English is inspiring.
