An unavoidable delay in materials means the traffic light at 37th Street North and Tyler Road near Maize South High School will not be in place as soon as originally planned. The new projection has the light in place around the end of 2020.
During the June Maize Board of Education meeting, board members expressed disappointment in the delay. Board members previously approved a $50,000 contribution for the light. It is part of an ongoing effort with the City of Wichita to improve safety and traffic flow in that area, affected by school-related traffic and challenges with the four-way stop. Traffic patterns had not yet met a threshold for the City of Wichita to budget improvements, prompting the collaborative approach between the various entities.
Dr. Higgins said the delay is out of the district and city’s control and is because of delays in materials.
