Kristen Scribner named one of 12 Celebrating Excellence in Education Awardees
Kristen Scribner will teach 5th grade at the new Maize South Intermediate School in the upcoming school year. Previously, she taught at Pray-Woodman. She’s been with Maize for 17 years. During the 2020-21 school year, she was named one of 12 Celebrating Excellence in Education Award winners.
Kristen was inspired by her parents, who both taught, to pursue education. Growing up, she learned their tips and teaching tools and listened to the connections both had with their students. She has learned every student has a story.
Throughout her teaching career, her students have taught her acceptance and the importance of learning. She said, “No matter how silly, crazy, or lengthy the story is, just listen. Children tell their stories to their teachers because they want to feel heard, and their words are important. Nothing replaces the real-world communication of the heart.”
When asked what she hopes students remember from her class, she said, “I hope my student leave feeling valued and that I genuinely cared for them.”
We are proud to have Kristen as part of the OneMa1ze team!
