Callie Harris wins Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
Pray-Woodman Elementary School Assistant Principal Callie Harris is the recipient of a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
The National Science Foundation, on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, administers the program to honor exemplary educators for teaching science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science.
Harris has been an elementary educator for 17 years, including three years teaching first grade at Maize Elementary School and seven years as the school's Math Interventionist. In that role, she trained her colleagues to use student data to meet their individual needs and daily supported more than 100 students who had the highest math-related needs. She also received a grant for nearly $12,000 for the school’s Stop Everything and STEAM Day program. It provided monthly programs for students and led to community partnerships with Wichita State University’s College of Engineering.
