Maize High School Class of 2009 graduate and 13-year senior Ashley Hett is back this year as a Pray-Woodman Elementary School counselor. She has a OneMa1ze family and says her heart has been in Maize since 1996.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be? I have the best job in the world! I get to talk with students about their emotions and feelings. I get to spend individual time with students and truly get to know them well. I have the privilege to encounter many students throughout the day and teach the Maize Way character traits to all!
What do you enjoy about the work you do? Everything! Being a school counselor is my true passion, and I truthfully think that I have THE BEST job ever.
What are the values that drive you? I believe in my students, and I want to provide them the skills they need to succeed. All students are capable of MANY amazing things. They are capable of anything!
What do you like doing when you are not working? I love to be with my family and spend time at the lake behind our home. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and together we have three beautiful, amazing, talented children.
Do you have any special connections to Maize USD 266? Yes! My husband is the Network engineer for the district, my daughter, Shipley attends the Maize Early Childhood Center, and we take advantage of the Maize Parents as Teachers program.
What is your favorite thing about Maize USD 266? Everything! Maize is a DREAM come true. I love working in the district that raised me!
What is the most interesting thing or experience you bring to the district? Trauma informed practices and training. Last year, I was able to attend the Trauma Informed Schools Conference, where I had the privilege of hearing Heather Forbes and many other amazing speakers. Heather Forbes is the author of “Help for Billy.” Forbes gives parents and educators strategies to help students who have dealt with trauma.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know about you? I am so blessed to be here in Maize. This is a dream come true. I wake up EVERY day EXCITED to be at work. I have the BEST students at PWS and the BEST coworkers!!
