Welcome Dr. Raquel Greer, Superintendent of Schools
-
The Maize family welcomes Dr. Raquel Greer, who joins USD 266 as its Superintendent of Schools on July 1. She will be a familiar face to many, as she spent a total of more than 50 hours visiting each school in the spring. She devoted time meeting students, getting to know employees from all departments, and connecting with community members to build relationships, learn more about the district, and prepare for her leadership role.
Dr. Greer is eager to guide Maize USD 266 in a journey to refocus and reenergize on instruction and what kids need, she said. She attended Maize Board of Education meetings and district leadership meetings and met with Dr. Chad Higgins, immediate past superintendent, and joined him for Superintendent Student Advisory meetings to hear from high school students who are leaders in their schools. She also developed a Superintendent Entry Plan focused on connecting, learning, and leading, reflective of the district’s mission. She also participated in the hiring of key district and building leadership positions.
Dr. Greer, who has experience as an educator and a school counselor, said the community can expect her to value relationships, teamwork, and caring for people. She said the Maize USD 266 superintendent position was the only job she applied for and was drawn to join and lead the district because of its highly skilled employees, excellent reputation, and involvement of and support from an informed and caring community base. She met many community and business leaders during the Spring 2022 Maize Education Foundation Spring Breakfast event, among other school events. She and her family are in the process of relocating to the Maize area and are eager to become community members themselves, she said.
She has been an educator and community member in the Wichita area for 23 years and welcomes the opportunity to continue to get to know Maize and share more about herself. She and her husband, Jason, have four children.
Prior to joining Maize, Dr. Greer worked as the Mulvane Schools Assistant Superintendent since July 2018, and her work history also includes time as an elementary principal, elementary counselor, and third-grade teacher in Mulvane. She earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Masters of Education in Counseling and Leadership from Wichita State University. Her community engagement experience includes that with the Mulvane Community Foundation, Mulvane Children’s Fund, Strengthening Families Program, and Girls on the Run.
